Rava Idli Recipe

Rava idli is a popular healthy south indian breakfast recipe which can even be good for lunch. It is very quick, easy to prepare and tastes delicious. It does not require 2 days preparation time like traditional idli but can be made instantly. Lets start how to make it.

Preparation time: 10-15 mins
Cooking time: 15 mins
Serving: 2

Ingredients for making Batter:

1.) Sooji /Rava /Semolina- 1 cup

2.) Plain yogart or curd - 1/2 cup

3.) Water - 1 cup

4.) Salt - as per taste

Ingredients needed for Tadka or Seasoning:
1.) Mustard seeds -  1 tsp
2.) Urad dal - 1 tsp
3.) Asafoetida or hing - a pinch
4.) Curry leaves - few (chopped)
5.) Jeera - 1/2 tsp
6.) Oil - 1 tsp
7.) Carrot (optional) - 1 medium sized ( finely shredded)
8.) Green chillies - 2 finely chopped
9.) Ginger - 1/2 inch piece finely chopped
10.) Baking soda or you can also used Eno fruit salt - a pinch

Method of preparation:
1.) Add Rava, curd, salt in a bowl, then add water little by little and mix it well without making any lumps, (do not add excess of water at once). The consistency of batter should neither be too thick nor be too thin, so adjust water accordingly. Set it aside for 15 mins.

2.)  Now finely chop ginger, green chillis, curry leaves and carrot if used (here i have not used it).
3.) Heat oil in a pan or kadhai, add mustard seeds and jeera, once seeds splutters add urad dal, hing,            ginger, green chillies and curry leaves. Mix it well and switch off the flame.

4.) Now add this mixture to the batter along with pinch of baking soda. mix it well. The mixture will        begin to foam. As the batter rested, it may becomes thick as semolina absorbs all water so add            little water and stir it well to make perfect consistency.

5.) Set it aside for 10-15 mins. Grease the idli moulds with oil and add the batter on it. Steam cook for 10-15 mins like normal idlis in idli steamer or you can even use pressure cooker.

6.) Serve piping hot with Sambar or any chutney of your choice.
